There is nothing like small-town life. Everyone knows everyone, which can be great if you're into that sort of thing, but it can be a little irritating because it means that everyone knows everyone else's business. Gossip swarms around small towns like a plague of locusts that you can never seem to get rid of. What you did in the sixth grade can haunt you into your 30s. The person you date in high school can end up being your neighbor. For some, this is a version of hell that they will fight tooth and nail to escape. For others, this is the perfect slice of heaven that they dream to live in forever.

Either way, you may be surprised that your habits now can affect whether or not you leave the small town in which you grow up. If you love your small town, you may find that there are better opportunities elsewhere. On the other hand, if you can't wait to get out of that town, you are still at risk of getting stuck there.
